About Sunsave

G'day — I'm Lachlan.

I run Sunsave, I do the site visits myself, and this is the story of why the company exists.

How I got here

I've been in the solar industry for four years now. I started as an electrical apprentice and got onto the tools early, installing solar and battery systems as a contractor for other companies around Victoria. Different companies, same pattern: the sales team promised whatever closed the deal, the installers got squeezed, and once the system was on the roof, nobody from the company was ever seen again.

The worst of it was the volume operations — ten systems a week out the door, sold to anyone with a roof, no interest in whether the system suited the home or what happened to the people afterwards. I was the installer being sent to houses where the system made no sense for the family living in it. You stand in enough backyards like that and it changes what you're willing to put your name on.

So I started Sunsave — a solar company where the person designing your system is the person who's spent years installing them.

The standard every design has to pass is simple: would I put this on my own roof? If the answer's no, I won't put it on yours.

What that looks like in practice

  • I come to you. I do the in-home consults myself — your roof, your switchboard, your bills, in person. It's a proper sit-down, not a clipboard walk-around, which is why we ask that everyone who owns the home is there for it.
  • Questions before quotes. How you use power, when you use it, what's coming — EV, heat pump, going all-electric. The design comes out of your answers, not off a package list.
  • Numbers that account for winter. Solar makes less in a Victorian winter than a brochure summer. My estimates say so up front.
  • Gear I'd buy myself. Four years behind switchboards teaches you the difference between hardware that lasts and hardware that's cheap for a reason. We fit GoodWe, Sigenergy and Anker.

Who does the installs

Licensed electricians I trust with my name on the fence out front. One of them, Kyle, left this as a public Google review of what it's like working with us behind the scenes:

"I have to say I've been impressed with the thorough attention to detail they have when doing the site plan and system design. Lachlans continued follow up after the install to help customers get the most out of their systems is something most retailing companies lack" — Kyle E, Google review.

And when a customer's own electrician mate inspected one of our installs, his verdict was "bloody good work" — Tony Cerra's review, worth reading in full with the other eight.

Where we work

Country and regional Victoria, within reach of Melbourne. Big roofs, real usage, people who want their power bill dealt with properly.
